My wife and I simply love this place!
I have stayed here at least five times, with family and with friends. My wife and I simply love this place! I've been too lazy to write a review before now; since I am still lazy, I will keep this short. This is a new house, a very cool design on the highest ground in a new subdivision. It offers you probably all you need if you are visiting the "High Country" (which is roughly the triangle formed by Boone, Linville and Blowing Rock, and inclusive of Valle Crucis, Beech Mountain and Banner Elk.) The property is a terrific location with easy access to all the necessities and to all the attractions in the area. Three great bedrooms downstairs, and bunking opportunities upstairs; nice roomy garage, which you're going to want when the weather gets cold up there. Very nice and spacious kitchen too with stool seating for socializing while cooking, etc. There is also a nice deck with a grill and some great views of Lees McRae College and Banner Elk. There is even a fire pit with seating around out back, though I've not used that so far. Complementing the physical are some qualitative aspects; for instance superior privacy - something I give high priority to. Also, the owners are super nice, congenial and ultra-responsive, and seemed focused on making sure our stay was as pleasant as possible. Recently, my wife and I purchased a small farm not far from this property, and one day we will probably build our own house. Until that time, I plan to keep coming back here and even after that, I will recommend it to others.

The House is Flawless
We have salute lee love staying in this property! My wife and I go to a lot of vacation rental properties and honestly this one is the nicest we've been to. The house is flawless. Built in 2016 and features three bedrooms with a corresponding bathroom. This loosely translates to the house having three master suites. There are also additional beds on the second floor, but we did not have the need to make use of them. Our two daughters loved having their own rooms. The home had a wonderful view of Banner Elk, North Carolina and had a gas fireplace inside, a gas fire barrel/pit on the back porch as well as a traditional fire pit in the side yard. The kitchen was huge and well appointed. Our girls baked pies, cobblers and other desserts when rain set in for a couple of days. The views of the mountains that surround us were breathtaking. Do yourself a favor and book this property if its available.

Truly Home Away From Home
I frequent the Banner Elk area, and I've found Dawn and Harry's place to the the best I've stayed in. It's exceptionally clean, warm and welcoming. Truly home away from home.

The Best Home We Have Ever Rented!
The best home we have ever rented! The owners were very accessible, the location is very close to Sugar Mountain, Beech Mountain, Grandfather Mountain, and essentially walking distance from downtown Banner Elk. Spectacular views of Beech Mountain from the many windows and two large decks...you won't regret staying here!

The House Was Wonderful And Had All The Comforts Of Home
Our visit to Elk Creek was fantastic, the house was wonderful and had all the comforts of home. The hosts were amazing and truly cared about our visit and vacation. We visited over Christmas and they even asked if we’d like a tree. It was there for us upon arrival. Our family throughly enjoyed our time. We will definitely return to Elk Creek. Beautiful Mountain Retreat!
Our family enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving at Elk Creek Rental! The house is beautiful and offered plenty of room for our family of 8. (6 adults, 2 children) This house feels like a home not a vacation rental. The owners have put many personal touches in the decor of this property. We enjoyed the large deck and the fire pit on the chilly mornings and evenings. The house is conveniently located near the charming town of Banner Elk with restaurants, a winery, and grocery store. Boone, NC is a short drive away with a movie theater, shopping, and more dining options. The owners of this property are so thoughtful and easy to reach. We had a light snow the morning we were leaving, and the owner offered to have the driveway cleared. That is just one example of how attentive they are to their guest. We hope to return soon!

Perfect House, Great Location
Perfect house, great location. Made it easy to get in and out of Banner Elk. The kitchen was stocked with everything you could need for cooking and cleaning. The house was very clean and the owners were great to work with. The fire pit outside was one of our favorite spots!

Sounds of nature

Five Stars Without A Question....We Can't Wait To Visit Again
Where do I begin? We were so excited to make this vacation one to remember, might I say it surely was! Pulling up to this beautiful home set the mood.
Harry and Dawn, your home was very much a home away from home. From the decor to the amenities, you didn't miss a thing! Your recommendations to local restaurants, wine vineyards, Grandfather Mountain, Linville Falls, Blowing Rock, and Boone are an absolute must-see!
My first morning watering the flowers on your porch, I see a birds' nest with babies chirping for food, what a way to start my day. Morning coffee out on the balcony watching the hummingbirds.
Then the adventures began.....
If you're looking to be adventurous and see the true beauty of the mountains, this is the place to be. Where else can you have a beautiful home and great hospitality? After a full day exploring the mountains, have dinner in quaint town of Banner Elk ending, then home on the balcony overlooking the mountains with a glass of wine, and you have front row seats!!!
Five Stars without a question....we can't wait to visit again.

Our Stay Was Fabulous
Our stay was fabulous. Harry and Dawn's home was wonderful. They were easy to contact if we had any questions. The kitchen had everything needed for our stay as we cooked most of our meals and ate outside on the deck overlooking the mountains. The house was close to Blue Ridge Parkway where we did many hikes. Harry and Dawn's recommendations for restaurants were outstanding. Can't wait for our next visit! 5 Stars!!

Five Star+++ Home and Vacation, Thanks To Wonderful Hosts- May 2019
Part of what makes this house so lovely is the owners, and all the care they put into each detail in offering such sweet hospitality that will make you want to return to this home again and again. From our first communication with the Berry family, they went over and above with kindness. Check-in was simple (including a keypad door), and soon after check-in, Mr. Berry sent a text to make sure everything met our expectations. The upstairs bedroom was just a little warm, and Mr. Berry immediately offered to lower the temperature remotely. Within minutes, it was perfect, and our children were delighted to sleep upstairs! The owners include a binder with restaurant suggestions, etc. The home itself is immaculate (I have asthma, so this is important to us), and includes absolutely everything one could possibly need. The bedrooms are comfortable in every way (the Master is spectacular), and the family room and back deck are absolutely beautiful! After a great hike at Linville Falls, we all enjoyed an ice cream party on the deck, and agreed that this was the best spot to enjoy our ice cream! The home is in such a wonderful location, with proximity to many great places to explore. The little town of Banner Elk is our new favorite mountain town! In the Spring, there are gorgeous flower baskets blooming along downtown, and we even got to enjoy an arts and crafts fair! The restaurant we visited was wonderful, and we found the people of Banner Elk to be very warm and friendly!
The home is truly a haven... You will be refreshed, and hopefully be able to return soon! Thank you very much to the Berry family for your kindness. Blessings to you!

Extremely comfortable and relaxing and plenty of room
I want to thank you both for opening your home to us and our friends. Your home is much more beautiful than the pictures you show on the website. It is extremely comfortable and relaxing and plenty of room. The views from the front yard as well as the back are beautiful. You both certainly went above and beyond to make sure your home was stocked as if you were living there full time. Your suggestions of going to several local places was fantastic as we all had a great time.
I can't thank you enough for sharing your beautiful home with us and I have told many family and friends about our adventures at Banner Elk. We look foward to coming back!

Wonderful Time Being Snowed In
We had a wonderful time being snowed in on one of our 3 days at Elk Creek. There is plenty to keep you busy while in the house as it has all the amenities we have at our own house. The view is awesome, the owners, Harry and Dawn, are very attentive and responsive. We will stay again.

Outstanding Experience
Our family visited Banner Elk for the second time and it was better than before. Our stay in this gorgeous home was so much better than we expected. The home is welcoming, comfortable, and very spacious. The views from the back patio are serene and private. Our sons loved the upstairs area with the trundle and the cozy nook for hanging out. This home is situated within minutes from Sugar and Beech Mountains. We enjoyed skiing and tubing at the mountains. Our trip to Grandfather Mountain was amazing with the spectacular mountain views and beautiful nature trails. Dawn and Harry recommended several local restaurants that were fantastic. They went out of their way to make sure our stay was comfortable. We have rented vacation homes through VRBO for over 15 years and this was an outstanding experience.

Wonderful Time In This Spectacular Home!
Our two families had a wonderful time in this spectacular home! The expansive view welcomes you as soon as you walk in the front door, and we enjoyed it from all areas of the kitchen and living area. The beds were extremely comfortable, and we really appreciated the well-stocked kitchen. One morning we woke up to icy weather, but Harry had already thoughtfully arranged for the driveway to be salted. We lost no time getting to the ski slopes that day. Our kids loved the bedrooms upstairs, and the games and books were a nice touch.
We can't wait to come back to this wonderful home!

Everything And Some More!
We rented this house for Lees McRae Alumni weekend. It met all expectations and then some. We had 4 adults and 5 children, there was ample amount of room for everyone. The nice and relaxing atmosphere and view from the back deck was amazing. This mountain house had every amenity we could ask for. We will definitely rent again next year!

Amazing Family Vacation
What an Amazing family vacation we had here in your beautiful house. The Joy and the happiness to see our kids enjoy every minute of their stay here was priceless.
Our daughter's favorite spot was the cozy room in the Attic :-), and our son enjoyed the view through the Attic window as well.

Wonderful Experience
I just wanted to thank Harry Salah Berry and Dawn Sweeney Berry for a wonderful experience at their home, Elk Creek Retreat, in Banner Elk, North Carolina! I needed a place to stay during the last leg of our trip and was looking for something in that specific area and by luck found their brand new listing on Home Away and was blown away from the pictures! It looked so clean and inviting , exactly what I was looking for. As soon as we got there and settled in we decided we would stay an extra night! My son and his friend immediately scouted out the place and fell in love with the upstairs area, especially the huge bean bag chair and the Xbox lol although they had plenty of board games we played on the back deck and living room area! They also picked their rooms on the ground floor each with a private bath! My husband and I looked around as we were unloading and were relieved to see the king sized bed and huge master bathroom with gigantic walk-in closet! I knew I was in the right place!
